It is finished

Today’s word is complete. It sometimes arises in the context of a publication, as in fully there rather than abridged. It could be applied on the context of Jesus’ ministry (witness Jesus’ last words on the Cross, according to John). It also crosses my mind as a synonym for whole, or healed.

In the Gospels we see time after time the language of being saved. As far as I understand it, that’s the same word as being healed. To be saved is to be healed. To be healed is to be whole.

I was reminded of a colleague, a fellow priest. He has cerebral palsy. To function as fully as possible he needs a wheelchair. He doesn’t need (or want) physical healing to conform to our normal physical standards. It might not always sit well with those of us who appear normal (whatever that actually is) but he is complete as he is, as a believer, a child of God & a minister of the Gospel.

How might it change my life, our life, if we saw salvation, healing & wholeness, being complete, through that lens?
