Quick Win #1? 20 December 2010

Posted by Dr Moose in Ponderings, University.

Listening to the Today Programme this morning on Radio4 (a relatively rare delight of late) I had a brainwave. I can’t tell if it’s “simple” or “profound”).

  1. International banking (especially in the UK) is on the receiving end of seriously bad press and PR, what with bonuses totalling £Billion floating about.
  2. University funding is being slashed by £Millions, especially the “non-profitable” and sadly-‘acronym-ed’ AHSS (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences).
  3. Quick Win: A fantastic opportunity for individual bankers (or perish the thought, institutions) to put their money to use for the wider good of society in HE foundations and endowments (preferably in a systemic manner rather than to the traditional recipient universities). They gain good PR, and future financial return, HE systems gains much needed funds.

(And if any happy banker out there would like to provide a custom-built, state of the art, “non-profitable” Multi-Faith Chaplaincy, please take a number and join the queue!)
